ST.MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, NANAIMO
In 1984, the Eparchy of New Westminster, together with Deacon Paul and the Parishioners,
purchased the old Wellington United Church on 4017 Victoria Ave and renovated it into the
present day St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, which was officially opened & blessed
by Bishop Chimy on June 9th, 1984.
In November 2nd, 1986 Bishop Jerome Chimy formally installed Father Yaroslaw Dowbush
as St. Michael’s first Parish Priest and blessed the new dome and church bell.
Since it’s inception in 1982, the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s league (UCWLC) has played
a very important role, working together with the parish to fundraise and provideus with many
wonderful events such as perogy suppers, bazaars, fellowships to help grow the Parish.
Currently we have Father Theo Machinski as our parish priest to help guide us on the spiritual
path. Every Saturday after Divine Liturgy everyone is invited to join us next door in our Parish
Hall for a coffee social and to visit with our parish family. It’s a great time to catch up with each
other as well as enjoy some of our many cultural celebrations throughout the year.
